Who/What Do You Believe When the Federal Government Almost Always Lies???

Remember "All in the Family?"  A frequent argument on the show was Mike screaming that the government was lying about the war in South Viet Nam.  Archie, of course was supporting the war.  When I was a teenager in a fairly conservative family in those days,  I disagreed with Archie on almost everything, except about the war--I was in agreement with him about that.

However, over the decades, many of us have learned that Mike was almost  always right about the war in South Viet Nam, especially by watching Ken Burns' brilliant and deeply depressing documentary series "The Vietnam War."  Burns presented a great deal of evidence, showing how much the US government lied about our involvement in Vietnam from the very beginning.

Even though the government lied about the war and about how the government itself often stood in the way of the advancement of racial minorities and women, I didn't believe that the US government always lied...at least not until now.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the current head of Health and Human Services, has been whining that people aren't listening to him.  Why should they?  He's fired all the experts and is relying on people who will only tell him what he wants to hear.  Most of the government is lying constantly, particularly about health, the war in Ukraine, the number of people who are unemployed, which the cities are unsafe, that they really give a damn about wasting the people's tax payments... People should listen to experts who rely on facts to help keep us healthy, and that's doctors and their organizations.  I'm getting my COVID booster shortly. I don't care what the HHS says, I believe in what doctors say about my health.

Our federal government lies about why National Guard troops are sent to certain cities.  Crime has been down in places like Washington and Chicago.  I've been to both cities many times over the years and saw exactly one arrest and no crime in all those times.  I've never been afraid to be out and about in either city by myself and have never had any problems.  The government is trying to militarize the cities and keep people, both citizens and migrants, afraid.

I do not trust the government so long as Trump and his many minions are still in charge.  I'll listen to the experts, not government representatives.  I trust NPR 98% of the time and The New York Times about 80% of the time; I'll continue to rely on those outlets for my news.
